Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra
It is one of the most awaited festivals in India. It is also known as the Chariot Festival or Car Festival. It is celebrated in the month of Ashadha on the second day of the lunar fortnight that falls during June-July. The festival is celebrated in the honor of Lord Jagannath. The festival day marks the wooden idols of Krishna, Balrama and Subhadra taken out in procession in three chariots to their summer temple for a week.
Significance
According to the Padma Purana, there is a description about Purushottam Kshetra or Jagannath Puri. The place is blessed with supreme bliss. It is rightly said that Lord resides here eternally and listens to every prayer made by the devotees. who visits the place attains the blessings of Lord Jagannath. Hinduism values this Rath Yatra with utmost reverence.
History

The very famous Rath Yatra started in the time of Svarochisha Manu of the second manvantara. There is a prediction that the yatra will be continued till the second half of Lord Brahma’s lifetime. Even Valmiki mentions in Ramayana that when Lord Rama decided to return to heaven, he told Vibhishan to worship Lord Jagannath.
